The emphasis of this group is on spirituality. Photography and art are used as mediums to express and explore our inner-self and to connect us to dimensions outside of ourself. This group is obviously best suited for those who wish to grow spirituality and enjoy photography and art.
We usually render in art what we relate to the most. We will explore the relationship of photography and art to issues of ourselves, our relationships to others, and the world around us. These issues are a part of us and will be present in our creative artwork.
You don’t need to know anything about meditation, spirituality or metaphysics. You will learn the "Genesis Meditation." The Genesis Meditation was created by Dr. John A. Allocca to put you "in-touch" with your higher self. Once in-touch with your higher self, you can gain limitless knowledge.
If you don’t know anything about photography, but enjoy taking photographs, you will also learn about light, composition and framing. There will be very little technical critique, unless you specifically request it.
You will prepare your artwork and bring it with you at the next group meeting. You will present your artwork with an explanation of what your goals were, what you have achieved, and what it means to you. We will discuss the artwork and issues with you. Sometimes we add music to the artwork. Field trips will occur occasionally.
Spirituality
Many people confuse spirituality with metaphysics. Simply stated: metaphysics comes from the head, spirituality comes from the heart. You don't have to know about crystals, herbs, or anything intellectual to be spiritual. Simply stated: SPIRITUALITY IS GIVING LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY. Spirituality is helping people whenever and wherever you can. Spirituality is opening your heart and giving love without expecting it in return.
Meetings
The group meets every other Thursday evening from 7 pm to 9 pm in Northport. There may be special sessions of technical instructions if requested.
Fees and Expenses
The fee for the group meetings is $20 per session. You will be responsible for all of your own equipment, film, processing, etc. If there are any field trips or any other expenses, you will be responsible for your own incurred expenses.
Group Leader
Dr. John A. Allocca is a Medical Research Scientist, Certified Clinical Nutritionist, and Interfaith Minister. In addition to his work in medicine, he has been conducting interfaith services and workshops related to spirituality and metaphysics. He has published books and papers on all the above subjects. Dr. Allocca has also taught professional, medical and digital photography. His biographies can be found in "Who's Who in the World," Who's Who in Science," etc.
The Golden Spiral
The Golden Spiral was first discovered by Phythagoras in the 5th century B.C. The spiral is derived from the golden rectangle, which has the ratio of 1.618:1. When the rectangle is cut into a square, it leaves a smaller rectangle behind, which has the same ratio as the previous rectangle. The squaring can continue indefinitely with the same result. A quarter of a circle is connected to each square forming the golden spiral. This shape is found everywhere in nature: the Nautilus Shell, Ram's horns, the face of a Sunflower, fingerprints, DNA, and the shape of the Milky Way.
